Losing a pet to cancer is one of the hardest things a person has to deal with. It's heartbreaking to watch your best friend fade because of something they didn't deserve. You can see the pain in their eyes and you feel helpless against it. I personally have faced this disease twice and both times my furry children fought a hard battle but eventually their little bodies couldn't take it anymore. So no one else has to face this pain, I've put together this blog to help raise money for canine cancer research.
This way there will always be a furry, friendly face on the other end of the leash!

Time to Pack

Well I'm packing for race day. Weather keeps changing so I'm packing for rain and sun. It's gone from 60% chance of rain, to 30% and now it's at 50%. Temps are going to reach 70 but it may be cold for the race since it starts at 0630. My mom was not too happy about the start time, but since she didn't get up for my last race, she owes me big time.  Anyway I've got two outfits ready for race day:

Both have the Chase Away K9 Cancer shirts I had made (one black, one white).  Thanks to Heather at ACVIM Foundation and Jennifer at Shirtworks.  On the left is the cold weather outfit:  Saucony undershirt, UnderArmour capris (love these-they're fleece lined).  The right is if it's warmer:  white Target tank undershirt (the shirt is REALLY white and shows my bra - no wet t-shirt contest guys!), Nike capris, Athleta PowerMesh CYA Skirt.  Both outfits will have my favorite Moving Comfort Fiona sports bra, Balega socks, ASICS GEL-Nimbus 12s.

I didn't get any runs in this week except Monday.  I started to get sick with a sinus infection so I went to the doc yesterday.  All better now.  Gotta love those docs!  I'm not worried about the race.  No chance I'm going to PR at it.  Just wanting to have fun, visit with my mom, and see the sights.  The Flying Pig is supposed to be a "hoot" so I'm just going to take it all in.  Heck I've go 7 hours to finish it.  I can do that!

Race report will follow.  Along with news about my friend who was s-u-p-p-o-s-e-d to do the full with me on Sunday but signed up for a half on Saturday (yup he's an idiot).  He's doing the CMM half in Nashville on Sat., driving across Kentucky, and running the FP half on Sun.  Can you say C-R-A-Z-Y!  I'm happy with my full monty.  See ya at the finish line!

Summer's First Party!

I am tired.  Tired of working.  Tired of running.  Just plain tired.  I can feel the exhaustion taking over my body.  I know I'm in my two weeks of tapering so I can relax some about my running, but work and exercise is still kicking my butt (nope it's still there bigger than ever).

I know I should be getting ready for my Saturday morning run.  It's already after 7.  I'm currently having that a battle with my inner voice.  "Stay here!  Get up!  Comfy couch!  Sunny weather!  Stay here!  Get up!"  I have this battle a lot these days.

I really do enjoy running and doing marathons, but the training is ARGH hard!  By the time the race gets here, I'll just want it over and done with.  Of course until I get the metal at the finish line and I start crying.  Do you cry at the finish lines?

Now the puppy dogs have been the greatest this week.  Only two toys meet their demise during the wee hours of the morning.  There is nothing like waking up to a snowy white floor - IN YOUR BEDROOM!

Summer got to go to a party last night.  My co-workers got together and I brought her over to play with Shilby, a heeler.  They said she never gets tired so I thought Summer could get a good workout.  She was her usually "don't touch" self, but I am very proud of how she behaved around everyone.  She would at least go up and sniff their hands.  She even took the dog ball from a young kid's hand so gently.  She didn't run off and came (almost always) when I called her.

Shilby and her were hilarious to watch.  They finally started playing and chasing each other around the house.  Shilby started barking, but could only get a growl out of Summer.  Good girl!  Shilby is an only child and was really enjoying having a playmate over.  Summer found out she had to be quick about eating treats when Shilby snatch hers from her.  She was fast!  Shilby was tired by the time we left.  And Summer fell asleep in the truck on the way home.  Her first party and I'm so proud of her.

Saturday Sarcasm - Belated Furry Friday Tails

Well it's been a busy week.  I had a nice weekend where I picked up a joyful case of food poisoning.  That fun lasted for four days.  Don't worry.  I enjoyed enough bananas for an entire pack of monkeys.  Someone said they were good for a sick stomach.  Anyway, I'm all better now.

After my last post about the fun my Rottie had while I was gone, I was beginning to think there was hope for her.  I hadn't found any stray chewed up shoes or missing clothing items.  She was back to her normal crazy self.  Pestering Scout every waking minute.  Then came laundry day.

As I was putting away some items, I opened the dresser drawers and then I found a nice present on the bottom drawers....(see photo)

The litte stinker just sat on the floor and chewed three handles off!  When I asked her about it, she gave her best Denver impression.  Well time to go shopping for new handles...metal ones!

Now it's Saturday and I'm not going out for my run today.  I'm saving that fun for tomorrow.  It's time for my second 20 miler and I'm not looking forward to it.  Forecast says rain...fun, fun!  It's nice to finally get to enjoy a quiet morning relaxing with my puppies.  They are really good fuzzbutts!

However, I must let you know there is much sadness in the house...another one bites the dust.  Summer didn't admit to this one either.  Have a great week!

Furry Friday Tail (Tale)

Summer loves the S-N-O-W!
As many know, I have a difficult dog.  Summer is a dog dog.  She's not really interested in people.  We go to the dog park and everyone wants to pet the cute puppy and she's like "don't touch, don't touch!".  Summer just scoots away from everyone, sniffing nervously at them, and then running off to meet up with other dogs.  She looks at people like they're big scary things.  Some are able to get a pet in when she's occupied with meeting another dog.  Once she realizes what's up, it's right back to the "don't touch" mode.  We've been going for quite some time now and she's getting better.  She's gotten up to giving kisses on the hands of a few friends she's made at the park.

Well as most have seen, I took a trip to Moab.  So I had to have someone watch my dogs.  After the story above, I can hear the gasps and groans.  A friend said she'd stay with them.  Knowing what she might encounter, I said Summer might be difficult and Scout might not eat (she doesn't do well with me being gone - another weird dog).  Day one with Summer started off with her not wanting to go into her crate.  My friend tried for over an hour to get her into it.  She wasn't going!  She even growled at her.  I said leave her out.  Anything she chewed on was replaceable.  So she got to run around for four days.  Evil doggy!

Since it was March Madness, my friend was enjoying watching more channels on my tv.  Her daughter plays college basketball.  She stayed up late Saturday watching the games and fell asleep on the sofa.  Up until now she had been ignoring Summer, letting her do her own thing.  And Scout did eat like crazy while I was gone (crazy dog).  Anytime my friend tried to pet Scout, Summer got jealous and growled.  Back to the sleeping on the sofa...at 3:30 in the morning on Sunday, she was shaken awake by paws on her chest.  Summer had given up!  She wanted to play!  Summer realized my friend wasn't going hurt her and that she really wanted some loving.  My friend couldn't believe it.  She said Summer had become her best friend.

So there is hope for my nervous puppy.

What weird things have your dogs done?  Does having a pet make you a better parent?
