Losing a pet to cancer is one of the hardest things a person has to deal with. It's heartbreaking to watch your best friend fade because of something they didn't deserve. You can see the pain in their eyes and you feel helpless against it. I personally have faced this disease twice and both times my furry children fought a hard battle but eventually their little bodies couldn't take it anymore. So no one else has to face this pain, I've put together this blog to help raise money for canine cancer research.
This way there will always be a furry, friendly face on the other end of the leash!

Just a taste!

The first picture from my trip to Moab, Utah.  More to follow.....enjoy!

Just a quick note!

Well I'm going on my first vacation of 2011!  A short trip, but a trip away from work and everything.  My friend is running the Canyonlands Half in Moab so I'm tagging along.  It should be fun.  I've never been there and I hear it's great for pictures and hiking.  I'll give a recap when I get back.

On another note, this would have been my 18th wedding anniversary.  Would have been.  I've been divorced now for 17 years.  Yeah, it didn't last long.  I call it my "trial marriage".  We were young and not ready for it all.  Someday I'll do it again...maybe.

To end on a good note - I lost 4 pounds this week!  Guess I need company to come out more often.  It helps me get motivated to clean, fix, etc. around the house.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Unconditional Love

Let me introduce you to my other dog, Scout.  Scout is 11 years old.  She is an Australian Shephard, Blue Heeler, Rottweiler mix.  Because of that mix, I call her my "friendly bitch".  I got her as a puppy when my Rottie, Leo, started to get chunky and needed a playmate.  They were best buds.

She's been with me through the cancer treatments for both of my Rotties.  She helped both them and me feel better during the difficult times without being pushy or needy.  Setting her head down on my leg, looking up with those pretty Aussie eyes, just letting me know she was there if I needed her.  She's always been that way.

When Jersey passed, that was the hardest to watch.  Scout had never been alone.  Jersey came into the family before Leo died of her cancer.  But Jersey left suddenly.  When I came home that night, Scout looked behind me expecting her best bud to be there.  And then looked up not knowing what was going on.  She stayed by the door.  Waiting.  Three days later I had had enough.

That's when I brought Summer home.

Don't forget about the giveaway I have going on!  Today is the last day to get signed up.  Show your support for Lynne's Rotties and Chase Away K9 Cancer!  Thanks for everything!

What this means to me

This time last year, my Rottie Jersey Girl was finishing up her first round of chemo.  She had just turned four and the vet said she was in remission.  We moved through every day knowing it could come back at any time.  It was always there.  My family came to visit in June 2010.  They had never met Jersey and loved her spunky attitude.  It was a beautiful summer.  Unfortunately, I knew it would be the only time they would spend with her.  Little did I know my time with her was going to end as well.  The cancer came back July 3rd.  She was such a trooper with the second round.  But her body couldn't battle both.  This picture was taken on a warm August afternoon.

She died hours later.

This is why I feel so strongly about this cause.  I want to bring an end to the pain this disease causes for both furry friends and those left behind.  Please take the time to visit the Chase Away K9 Cancer website and look over the information they provide.  Read the stories of survival or stop by the ACVIM store to get yourself a great t-shirt.

Smoking Is Bad!

The things my Summer puts in her mouth.  Looks like she has a cigar instead of the rawhide bone she's been chewing on.  It's little things like this that make me laugh.  Too cute!

Also a quick reminder of my giveaway that's going on right now!  Head over HERE and sign up!  It closes on Sunday, March 13.  Lots of goodies for you and your furry canines.
