Losing a pet to cancer is one of the hardest things a person has to deal with. It's heartbreaking to watch your best friend fade because of something they didn't deserve. You can see the pain in their eyes and you feel helpless against it. I personally have faced this disease twice and both times my furry children fought a hard battle but eventually their little bodies couldn't take it anymore. So no one else has to face this pain, I've put together this blog to help raise money for canine cancer research.
This way there will always be a furry, friendly face on the other end of the leash!

A - B - C's

Thanks to Melissa (WannabeRunner) for the idea.  She listed out her answers to these questions on her blog and I thought they looked like something fun to do for a post on Wednesday.  These are my answers.  Enjoy!

(A) Age: 42. And still single!

(B) Bed Size: Queen - I had to size down from a Cali King when I moved into my house.  Luckily, my dogs aren't too comfy up in the bed.

(C) Chore You Hate: Dishes...I don't even like loading the dishwasher.

(D) Dogs? 2 - Summer & Scout!

(E) Essential Start Your Day Item: Coffee with FF Hazelnut Creamer.  Not human until I've gotten one cup down even on running days.

(F) Favorite Color: Green

(G) Gold or Silver? Gold

(H) Height: 5'6" - when I was in the AF, but doc says I'm 5'5" now (getting old sucks!).

(I) Instruments You Play:  Clarinet, trumpet, cornet, French horn, piano, flute, but I can't read a lick of sheet music.

(K) Kids:  No kids and I think I'm past my expiration date.

(O) Overnight Hospital Stays? None for me, but I've stayed with others who needed a friend to be with them!

(P) Pet Peeve:  People who don't register their vehicles.  Pay your taxes people, I do!

(R) Right or Left Handed? Right

(S) Siblings: 2 older bros

(T) Time You Wake Up? Usually around 6 because Summer has to have her food NOW dammit!

(W) What Makes You Run Late: I hate being late.  If I am, it's because of my hair or I hate my clothes.

(X) X-Rays You've Had Done: Yesterday, dental x-rays that found one cavity!

(Y) Yummy Food You Make: I love making my mom's recipe for chili.  It's a sweet chili with Pork 'n Beans added in.

Hope things get better tomorrow...

They say bad luck travels in sets of three.  Well I've had my three:
  1. Friday as I was leaving work, I found two large scratches on my truck.  My truck had been KEYED at work!  I have never had my vehicle keyed.  I mean my truck has definitely lost its new car smell (along with all of the paint on the hood) so it's not a big deal, but come on people...if you accidently scratch an ugly truck, please let us know so we can file a claim and get a new paint job.  Ta-da!  No more ugly truck!
  2. Today, I woke up to a balmy 49 degrees.  My heater had stopped working in the night.  I should have known something was up when Summer was curled up next to me.  She's not that friendly.  Remember she's a DOG-DOG, not a people-dog.  I waited until 8 to call the HVAC guys who got out at 10:30 - up to 52 degrees by then.  Ended up being the circuit board in the heater had fried.  Costing me almost $500!  There goes a few race entry fees and hopefully, there will be no more unnecessary vet visits.
  3. To add to my fun today, I had a dental appointment.  Cleaning went okay, but I ended up with a crown and filing on my schedule over the next two months.  And my teeth hurt now!
So I decided to have some fun when I got home.  I needed something super hilarious to brighten up my day....

Spring ("Summer") is in the air! LOL!

Longest Training Run Since...?!

Coach Judy
Saturday mornings are my long run days.  I learned this from Coach Judy during my time with the Boulder Running Company's Women's Fit Team.  I've trained with Coach and the girls three times so I tweaked the team schedule to fit my upcoming marathon.  Coach said it was okay.  She's busy getting the newest group of women ready for next Saturday's start of training for the Garden of the Gods 10 Miler.   She's a great coach!  I won't be training with the group for that race.  I may meet up with them to get started, but my miles are already higher than what the group will be at next week.  Like yesterday, I had a 13-14 miler on the schedule and was not looking forward to it.  Luckily, I had nowhere to be after my run so I took my time (even getting out of bed).  I didn't get started until 10:30!  (excuse is REI's Garage Sale & no I didn't buy anything)  The Springs has this great trail (see piccy below with link) going through town which connects to the New Sante Fe Trail.  I ran a little of both.  Unfortunately, the Colorado winds were blowing when I got started and didn't quit.  That, along with the direction I chose to go, didn't make things any easier.  I ran north toward the AFA (which I H-A-T-E) to get some hills into my training. Luckily there were lots of people and distractions (dogs!) on the trail today so it wasn't too bad.  I met another Rottie named Dakota (9 years old).  She was a lover.  A couple had a new puppy out for a walk.  A 5 month old yellow Lab with the biggest feet I've ever seen.  They are in for a treat in a few months!  Long dry spell as I went back south until a guy walked up with two beautiful, but not friendly, German Shephards.  He said they were lovers when you're in the house - to which I said the problem is getting IN the house.  Nice chuckle on that one and then back to running.  Turnaround for the last 3 miles.  The ugliest miles ever.  I was so tired of the wind and clouds started rolling over the Peak.  Kept thinking there was nothing in the weather report about rain or snow for Saturday.  When I finally saw my truck, I was so happy it was over.  Treated myself to food from Whole Foods along with a drink one of my fellow bloggers told me about - Synergy Kombucha tea.  Not too bad, but I wouldn't recommend drinking a full bottle on your first try (I drank 1/4).  Read Noshy's review and suggestion about asking WF's to let you try it (they let me have mine for FREE).  Enjoy!

Happy 5th Birthday Jersey!

Even though you're gone, we still celebrated your day and the memories created by your huge heart as a part of our lives.  You were the most loyal and best friend anyone could ask for and I am so glad I picked you that sunny day in April 2006.  You comforted me during the loss of Leo and kept Scout active when she needed a friend.  We had four and half beautiful years together and then it was time for you to be with Leo.
Summer is so different from you, my friend, which makes it quite humorous and crazy, but we're surviving.  The past six months have been a whirlwind of emotions and messes all reminding me of the fun I had raising you and Leo.  We still have a long way to go to ease the hurt in our hearts created by you leaving us too soon.
When I get sloppy kisses from Scout and Summer, it reminds me that all is okay, I'm not alone, and I'll see you again one day.  Hugs and shugies baby!

Another Holiday

It's Valentine's Day. Another lovely holiday with just me and the four legged kids. I sometimes wonder how I survive with these monsters who chew up everything in sight. And then there are days like today. I'm thankful they are here to fill my life with the unconditional love dogs give their owners. Summer with her young heart ready to meet the world head on and Scout with the gentle old heart able to melt yours with a single glance. These are my Valentine's and I love them! Hugs and sloppy kisses to you and yours!
